Under the current situation that child care has been transferred to society due to dual income families and other reasons, after-school care facilities are fields of socialization through peer relations and emotional cultivation. Although present care facilities serve child welfare, they just provide physical space based on functional needs. Therefore, this study aims to extract design guidance on physical environment that supports emotional development based on understanding of school-age children and analyse the characteristics. As a result, it was suggested that to support emotional development of school-age children, the environment should be designed to encourage emotional support for positive self-esteem and sense of achievement. To facilitate self-control ability, the environment should encourage predictability and physical and emotional coping possibility. In the guidance extracted, the plan that supported independent choice of children psychologically and physically was important. When spacial design factors are applied for furniture/facility, illumination/lighting, finishing, spatial placement/compositional elements in a good order according to situations without structural change or space, the environment can be made to support emotional development. This means that by applying elements of the spatial plan that can be adjusted depending on the situation, it is possible to improve the effective supporting environment more effectively in terms of time and economic dimensions.
