The purpose of this study to evaluate the effects of various modes of training on the changes in blood lipid, lipoprotein, testosterone and growth hormone during 12 weeks in middle aged men. Our participants in the study consisted of thirty-four men.
They were seperated into three groups: a control group(n=13), an aerobic training group(n=11) and a combined(aerobic + resistance) training group(n=10).
The aerobic training group was composed of 60-70% HRmax 60minutes a day(duration) for 3-4days a week(frequency). The combined training group was perforned to resistance training(30minute) and aerobic training(30minute). The aerobic training group significantly reduced blood concentration of triglyceride(TG, p<0.001), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C, p<0.01) and significantly increased blood concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C, p<0.05), Growth Hormone(GH, p<0.001) after 12 weeks of training. Also, The combined training group significantly reduced blood concentration of TG(p<0.001) and significantly increased blood concentrations of testosterone(p<0.001), GH(p<0.001) after 12 weeks of training.
Therfore, 12 weeks regular aerobic and combined exercise is considered to improve blood lipid, lipoprotein and hormone.
In conculsion, both modes of training appear to be effective in reducing numerous adult disease risk factors in middle aged men. Specially, our results support the recomendation that the combined training is a cornerstone therapy for prevention, treatment and control of adult disease.
